Meet Our Veterinarians

Tyler Frazee, DVM
Dr. Frazee is the Managing Partner at Kentucky Equine Medical Associates, PLLC.
Born and raised in the small ranching community of Eads,
CO, Dr. Frazee, along with his mother and two older brothers, spent summers at the racetrack with their father, who trains Thoroughbreds.
He earned a Bachelor’s degree in 1998 in Animal Science from Oklahoma State University, and in 2004 he completed a Doctoral degree in Veterinary Medicine from Ross University.
Dr. Frazee worked for Pine Bush Equine in upstate NY before joining Kentucky Equine Medical Associates in 2006.
Outside work, he spends time with his family – his wife Cheryl and three children. Dr. Frazee is an enthusiastic outdoorsman who enjoys hunting, fishing, and golfing.

Ethan Wilborn, DVM
Dr. Wilborn is a Partner in Kentucky Equine Medical Associates, PLLC.
A third-generation horsemen, Dr. Wilborn has been involved in thoroughbred racing his entire life. He earned an undergraduate degree in Agriculture from Murray State University in 2013, followed by simultaneous Master’s in Public Health and DVM degrees from the University of Missouri in 2017.
Dr. Wilborn offers clients a well-rounded approach built upon his experiences in the trainer's shoes alongside his father and grandfather.
When not practicing veterinary medicine, he is found riding his own horses with his wife, Erin, and children, Lane, Reagan and Logan.

Nicole Wettstein, DVM
Dr. Wettstein is a Partner in Kentucky Equine Medical Associates, PLLC.
Originally from Central Illinois, Dr. Wettstein completed her undergraduate degree in Equine Science at Colorado State University in 2005. She then pursued a breeding and farm management career and later transitioned into business as an office manager for an agricultural sales company. It didn’t take long to realize that her passion was back in the barn. In 2017, she graduated with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Illinois.
Dr. Wettstein went on to complete an internship at West Coast Equine Hospital in Southern California. She then moved to Lexington KY, taking an associate position at a practice specializing in Thoroughbred breeding and sales work. A long-time racing enthusiast, she had the opportunity to work at the Keeneland race meet and decided to pursue racetrack medicine full-time with KEMA.
With a strong foundation in horsemanship, business, and equine medicine, Dr. Wettstein brings a unique set of skills to the practice. She completed the Chi Institute’s Equine Acupuncture Certification program in December 2020.
She has been a member of the American Association of Equine Practitioners and the American Veterinary Medical Association since 2013.
Outside of work, Dr. Wettstein spends her time golfing, snowboarding, and searching for the best local food spots in town.

Tatiana Fraguela, DVM
Originally from Miami, Dr. Fraguela has been immersed in Thoroughbred racing from an early age. Following the sport sparked a long-standing interest in the athletic demands placed on racehorses and the veterinary care that supports them. Over time, that curiosity evolved into a commitment to equine sports medicine and the well-being of performance horses.
She earned her Bachelor’s degrees in Animal Science and Biology from Auburn University, then completed a Master’s degree in Animal Science at the University of Florida. Dr. Fraguela received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Lincoln Memorial University in 2019 and subsequently completed an internship at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Saratoga Springs, where she gained extensive experience in high-end racetrack and performance horse practice.
Dr. Fraguela joined the practice in 2020 and became a Partner in 2025. Her professional interests include lameness evaluation, emergency medicine, and complementary therapies that enhance performance and recovery. In 2023, she earned certification in Equine Acupuncture through CuraCore at Colorado State University.
Outside of work, she enjoys college football, spending time with family and friends, and unwinding with a good movie.

Kaylee Casey, DVM
Dr. Casey is an Associate Veterinarian who joined the practice in 2023. She blends practical racetrack medicine with a genuine passion for keeping equine athletes feeling and performing their best.
Raised on a cattle farm, she developed a lifelong connection to animal health that carried her through her DVM at Mississippi State University and her undergraduate studies at Texas Tech.
AVCA-certified in animal chiropractic, she uses a thoughtful, integrated approach to support comfort and mobility in the horses she treats.
When she's not at the track, she enjoys spending time with her “little critters" and lending a hand at her family’s livestock auction when she can. She also loves exploring new foodie spots, anything outdoors, connecting with her church community, and relaxing with a good book.

Abigail Ludwig, DVM
Dr. Ludwig joined the practice as an Associate Veterinarian in 2024.
She grew up in the heart of Central Illinois, where her love for animals first began. She attended Eureka College, graduating in 2020 with a Bachelor’s degree in Science. During her undergraduate studies, she gained valuable hands-on experience as an intern at Tammany Veterinary Hospital, solidifying her passion for equine medicine.
Driven by a commitment to providing exceptional care for horses and their owners, Dr. Ludwig went on to earn her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2024. Today, she brings her knowledge, compassion, and dedication to her work as an equine veterinarian.
Outside of work, Dr. Ludwig enjoys spending quality time with her family, playing games, reading, and embracing anything that allows her to be outdoors. She is happily married to her husband, Ashton, and together they share their home with two beloved pets.

Kaitlin Frei, VMD
Our newest Associate Veterinarian joined the practice in 2025.
Dr. Frei was born and raised in the Chicago area. She grew up riding and competing in the Hunters.
She completed her undergraduate degree in Biology at the University of Notre Dame, where she was also on the varsity track and cross-country teams. After attending the University of Pennsylvania for her Veterinary degree, she completed an internship in Texas at Equine Athlete Veterinary Services, focusing on Arabian show horses.
She then worked at John R Steele & Associates and Atlantic Equine Services, focusing on FEI show jumpers and dressage horses in Wellington, FL and along the East Coast.
Outside of work Dr. Frei spends her time running, road cycling, and trail riding her retired Hunter.

Kevin Dunlavy, DVM
Dr. Dunlavy is a former Managing Partner of Kentucky Equine Medical Associates, PLLC. He is currently working as a Relief Veterinarian for the practice.
His father was a breeder/owner, former jockey and a trainer so he was immersed in horse racing from childhood. He earned a DVM degree in 1991 from Louisiana State University and a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry in 1988 from the University of Arkansas.
A member of the American Association of Equine Practitioners since 1991, Dr. Dunlavy has served on its Racing Committee, Ethics Committee, and On-Call Program.
He has been the attending veterinarian for eight Kentucky Derby winners, including Justify (Triple Crown winner ’18), American Pharoah (Triple Crown winner ’15), California Chrome (’14), Mine That Bird (’09), Real Quiet (’98), Silver Charm (’97), War Emblem ('02), and Authentic ('20).
When not working with horses, he spends family time with his wife Polly and children Tristan, Kate, and Ethan.

Phil Tripp, DVM
Dr. Tripp is a former founding Partner of Kentucky Equine Medical Associates, PLLC. He is currently working as a Relief Veterinarian for the practice.
Raised in the Sooner state of Oklahoma, Dr. Tripp earned a DVM degree in 1986 and a Bachelor of Science degree in 1982, both from Oklahoma State University.
His professional affiliations include:
- The American Association of Equine Practitioners.
- Serving on the Professional Conduct & Ethics Committee.
- The American Veterinary Medical Association.
- The Kentucky Veterinary Medical Association.
Dr. Tripp’s professional focus is on equine sports medicine and lameness, while his personal priorities involve family and church activities.
He is a hunter, fisherman, and all-around outdoorsman who also raises Charolais and Angus cattle.

Sarah Grigoleit, DVM
Dr. Grigoleit joined KEMA in January 2024 as an Associate Veterinarian and transitioned to a Relief role at the end of 2025. A 2019 graduate of Lincoln Memorial University, her special interests include sports medicine and diagnostic imaging. She held previous positions in central Kentucky as an equine general practitioner and had many years working on Thoroughbred farms and at the racetrack prior to deciding to attend Veterinary school in 2015.
Dr. Grigoleit has been an avid horse racing fan since her first introduction as a small child going to Saratoga every summer with her family.
